Lucky Dog

China Walls is a well known adventure ocean sports site in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood on Eastern Oahu.  Cliff jumping is popular as are body surfing and diving depending on conditions. The area is well known for occasionally unpredictable big waves that can be quite dangerous for folks near  the rocks.

Here’s a pooch who wandered into a bad area just as a big wave washed the wall area. The good news is that the Fuzzbutt surfed his way out and was rescued and returned to safety.

There is zero chance of this happening to Max. Zero.

    • Yeah, it was very careless of the dog owner. At first it was reported that the owner was the rescuer but it turned out the actual rescuer was just a guy swimming nearby. China Walls can be very difficult to climb out so it was fortunate the pup found a Good Samaritan.

    • The real challenge is getting out between wave sets. You have to be nimble and quick and keep your eye on the ocean. The rocks are very slippery ans some are are quite sharp. The doggie was a pretty good swimmer.

    • I was surprised the little dog did so well. I bet he was really rolling in the surf. That wave was probably an 8-10 footer, not a monster but enough for some underwater tumbling. Seems like he/she just shook it off.

  1. Hi Tom,
They even make some of the pooches different in Hawaii. That dog was incredibly and definitely puts Bilbo to shame as well. He who doesn’t like getting his paws wet at the beach.
Thought you would enjoy a tale of heroism from Brisbane where a man drove over the road and into the Brisbane River and was rescued by a passing motorist who dived into the cold water: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-14/driver-escapes-from-car-after-crashing-into-brisbane-river/6617366
Meanwhile, a crane was required to pull me away from my electric blanket this afternoon when the kids arrived home. Ouch it is cold! xx Rowena

The poor little dog, what a scary thing to have happen to him. I got the chills just watching the video with my mom and to think that the owners let that little guy so close to the edge of the cliff. I wonder what they were thinking?
